Ahmadi Muslim Youths Organisation (Majlis Khudamul) Lagos state chapter have joined the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to launch the “HeForShe” campaign, on 28th January, 2020.
The “HeForShe” was a United Nations initiative established on the 20th September 2014 by the then UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon which aims at raising the awareness in men to fight gender inequality in the world.
The Governor while speaking on the need for gender balancing at the event which was held at the Adeyemi Bero hall in Ikeja, said women are enriched with incredible potentials capable of promoting development in the society and must not be left untapped.
Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that men must understand that women are more deserving of security and protection. He noted that ignoring women is like ignoring one hand out of the hands granted to us by God and that women have demonstrated great capacity in all areas of human endeavours that were hitherto exclusive preserve of men.
In his words “Women are endowed with incredible potentials that the society needs to harness to achieve optimum level of development. As the Chief Executive of Lagos State and one who believes in the critical role of women in advancing the socio-economic development of our State, I am proud to accept the responsibility to lead this campaign as an ambassador for the cause of Women in Lagos State.”
The governor was joined by Ms Comfort Lamptey representative to UN women Nigeria in Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who was represented by Lansana Wonneh.
Other dignitaries in attendance was Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; First lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, Attorney General of the State, Moyosore Onigbanjo; Managing Director, Polaris Bank, Tokunbo Abiru; Oba of Elegushi land, Saheed Elegushi; representative of MKAN Lagos Comr. Kolade Muhamad, Royal fathers and others.
