“And those who say, ‘Our Lord, grant us of our wives and children the delight of our eyes, and make us a model for the righteous.”
“Although it is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an that the children are also a trial (for the parents) just as the wealth is, but if the intention is good and one wishes to have children so that they may serve religion and the parents may also be rewarded through them, then, it is not only permissible to wish for the children, it is deemed a righteous act of the parents.
“The verse _“waj-alna lil muttaqeena imams”,_ urges us to cherish this desire (that one’s children should serve God and His religion); this desire is really cherished by those who are saintly and very righteous and who are anxious to leave behind goodness of their actions. It is a grave sin and nothing less than associating others with God (shirk) that one should wish to have children simply because he would like to have somebody to inherit him and own his property instead of its going in the hands of other relatives; also that the children may continue fighting with the relatives and thus keep the memory of their father fresh after his demise.
“I know it for certain that unless such ideas are ousted from the heart, one cannot be deemed a true Muslim. We should try to get closer to God everyday and whatever He denotes as a trial must be avoided and should not be asked from God. If a man devoted his life for the sake of God, he gets his needs fulfilled by Him, for, He is the one who has created him and who knows all about him. When He finds a righteous person looking for an heir so that righteousness can be given a continuity, his prayers are accepted by God and He grants him an heir. The prayers of such a person are already placed in the category of the accepted one.”
