State Ijtema: Lagos Ilaqa offers free Medical Service, Blood Donation

As part of the programme designed for the State Ijtema in preparation for the National Ijtema held in Ikirun, Osun State, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Lagos Ilaqa has offered free Medical services to Igbopa London Community, Abule Eko, Ijede and donated 60 pints of blood to Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS) to save precious lives.

The exercise, which lasted for about 4 hours, featured the following: B.P. checks, Sugar level checks, Health counselling and Distribution of Malaria drugs to adults and Deworming tablets for children. There were cases where some of the participants were referred to see doctors for further checks on their health statuses.

Meanwhile, there were 18 cases of hypertension detected and no case of diabetes. The affected person were advised on the next level of actions to keep manage their conditions and live healthy lives. Eighty (80) members of the community were attended to (38 Male and 32 Female) while Fifteen (15) members of the Majlis worked as volunteers in the free health service delivery.

The Community was chosen owing to majority of the inhabitants being of the lower class and do not have easy access to health facilities. The event was covered by TVC Lagos and MTA Nigeria.

One of the beneficiaries mentioned that he has been advised to have her blood sugar level and other checks in a laboratory, but she was yet to get money for the checks. The free medical services brought by the Majlis was a blessing to her, she stated. Others also mentioned how the services has touched their lives.

In the same vein, members of the Majlis offered voluntary blood donation at Ijede Community. The event was coordinated by the Majlis Welfare Department, in collaboration with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Services (LSBTS). A total of 60 (Sixty) pints of blood was donated. The LSBTS sent a letter of appreciation to the Majlis after the event.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Pharm. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf was ably represented by two directors from the Ministry and one of them, Mrs Helen Adegoke presented the Commissioner’s Keynote Address which contained eulogies for the Majlis and advice to the Youths on the need to be involved in voluntary blood donations and offer other community development services, as being exemplified by the Ahmadi Youths in Lagos.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter was also at the occasion and led by the Acting Chairman, Comrade Gbenga Ogunsola. Other officers of the council in attendance were General Secretary, Comrade Ridwan Tinubu and the coordinator of Agbado Oke Odo Local Chapter, Comrade Seye. The Head of the team also gave a talk on the need for regular blood donation.
